A car key is not a shaped piece of metal with a chip glued to it. It is an electronic device that has to be paired to your vehicle before it will start anything, and that pairing is the step that never happens when you buy a key online.
I do that pairing at the vehicle. Send me the year, make and model and a photo of the key, I confirm your vehicle is one I can program and quote the job, then I come out to you.
What key work covers
Every job here is the electronic side of a key: teaching the vehicle a key it should recognise, or removing one it should not.
- Key fob and smart key programming. Transponder keys (Ford calls its system PATS), fobik keys and push-button smart keys, on supported vehicles.
- All keys lost. With no working key left there is nothing to copy, so the vehicle is taught a new key from scratch, at the car. The keys it no longer has are cleared so they cannot start it.
- A duplicate or spare key. One working key is one lost key away from a problem. I add the spare and check it starts and unlocks.
- Remote and proximity fobs. Lock, unlock and push-button start functions, where the vehicle supports the key you have.
- A fob that stopped working. A dead fob battery is not a programming problem, and it is worth knowing that before anyone charges for programming.

- 4I come to you, at your home or wherever the car is parked, program the key, and you try it yourself before I leave.
Where it is not possible at the roadside
Not every vehicle can be programmed at the roadside. Some need a dealer tool, some need an existing working key first, and some need a key type ordered in. I tell you before you spend anything, and if I cannot do the job you do not pay for an attempt.
Programming covers the vehicle's electronics. If the key blade still needs cutting, or the key has to be supplied, that has to be sorted first: I am not a locksmith and I do not cut keys.
This is not a locksmith or dealership key service, and I claim no manufacturer authorization. Key programming is also a different job from feature coding.

Key programming is offered on supported vehicles across ten makes: Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Honda, Acura, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram and Ford. What is possible depends on the year, model and key type. Compatibility varies by year, make and model, and I verify yours before you spend anything.
Service area and travel
I work across Chattanooga and the towns around it: Chattanooga, Hixson, Red Bank, East Ridge, Ooltewah, Soddy-Daisy, and Brainerd. No travel fee within 10 miles of Chattanooga. Beyond 10 miles a travel fee applies, quoted up front before booking. Anything over 30 miles is outside my service area.

Can you program a key I bought online?
Often, on supported vehicles, if it is the right key type. Aftermarket keys vary and some cannot be programmed at all. Send your details and a photo of the key and I will tell you before you book.
What does key programming cost?
It is quoted per vehicle. The price depends on your year, make, model and key type, so there is no single number I can honestly publish. Call or text with those details and I confirm the price first.
Can you help when every key is lost?
Yes, on supported vehicles. The vehicle is taught a new key from scratch and the keys it no longer has are cleared. Some vehicles need a specific key type or a dealer step first, so send your details and I will confirm.
Do you cut the key blade?
No. Programming is the electronic half of the job. If the blade needs cutting or the key has to be supplied, that has to be sorted first, and I will say so when I quote.
Will the key I lost still work after you program a new one?
Where the vehicle supports it, a lost or stolen key is erased as part of the visit, so it can no longer start or unlock your car. Whether yours supports that depends on the year, make and model.
