I come to you
Serving Chattanooga and surrounding areas
You changed your own oil. You did it right — filter, drain, fresh oil to the mark. The dash still says Oil Change Required.
Or you paid a shop to change it and they never reset the reminder. Or you reset it yourself and it came back a few hundred miles later.
Here's why: on a modern vehicle, the oil-life reminder isn't a light with a timer behind it. It's electronic, calculated and stored in a module — a countdown driven by mileage and, on many vehicles, by how you actually drive. It doesn't reset itself because the oil is new. It resets because someone tells it to.
Why it comes back after you reset it
Usually one of two things:
- 1The reset sequence wasn't completed. On vehicles where it's a button sequence, the last step is easy to miss, and a partial sequence can look like it worked while the countdown never actually cleared.
- 2The interval wasn't set. Clearing the display is not the same as configuring the service interval. On many vehicles the reminder is calculated from a configured distance and service type — and if that wasn't set, the module keeps counting as if nothing happened.
If yours has come back, that's almost always the reason: the reminder got cleared but the vehicle was never told when the next service is due.
What I do — Oil Life reset, $40
I come to you and do both halves of the job properly:
- Reset the oil-life / service-maintenance reminder so it stops showing
- Set the correct service interval for your vehicle, where your vehicle supports that
Then I verify it's cleared before I leave, so you're not the person finding out three weeks later that it didn't take. In your driveway, right after your oil change — typically 15–20 minutes, $40.
It's one of the fastest jobs I do, and one of the cheapest. Book it the same day you do your oil and it's done in the time it takes to put your tools away.
What this is — and what it isn't
This is the electronic side only: reset and interval configuration. I don't change oil, and I don't perform mechanical service of any kind. If you need the oil changed, have that done first — then I'll set the reminder correctly so the dash matches the work you've had done.
Not the same on every vehicle
On some vehicles this is a sequence you could do yourself, and I'll happily say so. On others it needs a scan tool, and getting the interval right — not just the light off — needs equipment and the right configuration. That's the part most people can't do at home, and it's why this service exists.
Getting it right also matters beyond the light: a service reminder that's set to the wrong interval either nags you early or, worse, lets a real interval slide past.
Other reminders
If your vehicle has other electronic maintenance reminders — a service indicator, an inspection message, a maintenance-minder reset — tell me when you get in touch. Those usually fall under my other electronic resets, and I'll confirm what your vehicle supports and the price before I start.
Compatibility is verified first
Most vehicles support an electronic oil-life reset, but the procedure and the available interval settings vary by year, make and model. I confirm yours is supported before booking — and if it's one you can do yourself in thirty seconds, I'll tell you that instead of taking your $40.
Where to go next
I verify compatibility and give you the price before we schedule — if I can't deliver, you don't pay.
Prices are starting prices, not guarantees. Final pricing can depend on the vehicle, location and work involved; a travel fee applies beyond 10 miles. Compatibility varies by year, make and model and is verified before any appointment. This is an electronic diagnostics, coding and reset service — not mechanical repair. No dealership or manufacturer affiliation.
