Putting the electronic parking brake into its service mode on supported vehicles, and taking it back out again afterwards: the calipers are retracted electronically so pads and rotors can be serviced without forcing the motor. This is the electronic side of the job only. The brake work itself is a shop job, and I say so rather than sell you something this service does not cover.
An electronic parking brake is worked by a motor on each caliper. Forcing the piston back by hand while the motor is still engaged can damage it, so the calipers have to be retracted electronically first. That is what service mode does.
On supported vehicles I put the parking brake into service mode, and take it back out again afterwards, through the OBD port at your location. Your vehicle is verified first, because not every electronic parking brake is put into service mode the same way and some have no service mode at all.
This is the electronic half only. I do not replace pads or rotors and I do not do brake repair, because brakes are mechanical work and that is a shop job. What you get from me is the vehicle in the right state for that work, and back in its normal state afterwards.
What this addresses
- Pads or rotors are being done and the shop needs service mode set
- The parking brake will not release for a brake job
- The parking brake needs to come back out of service mode
- You want to know whether your vehicle has a service mode at all
- A parking brake message after recent brake work
Compatibility
Electronic parking brake service mode is offered on supported vehicles only. The procedure, and whether there is one at all, varies by year, make and model. I verify yours before you book and tell you if there is nothing to set.
How mobile service works
- 1Tell me your year, make, model, engine — and what your car is doing (or what feature you want changed).
- 2I verify your vehicle and confirm the service is supported before you spend anything — compatibility varies by year, make and model.
- 3I confirm the price with you before I head out. Prices are starting prices. No travel fee within 10 miles of Chattanooga. Beyond 10 miles, a travel fee applies at $2 per round-trip mile, quoted up front before booking. Anything over 30 miles is outside our service area.
- 4I come to you — your home, your office, your driveway. No waiting room, no dealership lane.
- 5I work with professional equipment, report what I find, and deliver — a diagnostic report, a reset, a feature unlocked.
Common questions
Do you do the brake job too?
No. Brakes are mechanical repair and that is a shop job. I set the electronic parking brake into service mode and take it back out again. The pads and rotors are fitted by whoever does the brake work.
Can the vehicle be left in service mode?
Not by me. Service mode is for the job. I take the vehicle back out of it and check the parking brake operates before I leave.
Does every car have a service mode?
No. Support varies by year, make and model, and some vehicles need a different sequence. I verify yours before you book and tell you if there is nothing to set.
Can you fix a parking brake fault?
Only where the fault is electronic and a supported procedure exists. If a motor, a caliper or a switch has failed, that is a part and a shop, and I tell you so rather than charge you for a setting that cannot fix it.

Prices are starting prices, not guarantees. Final pricing can depend on vehicle, location, diagnostic complexity and requested procedure. This is an electronic diagnostics, coding and reset service — not mechanical repair. Diagnostics identify electronic faults but do not guarantee that a specific mechanical repair will resolve a problem. No dealership or manufacturer affiliation.
